Hard Shift 1st-2nd, will not shift to third.

I browsed and searched for things that may have been relevant to this post topic, but have yet to see anything in regard to it on the site. <crosses fingers and attempts to follow rules>.

Anyhow, I own a 2007 Honda Civic LX Automatic along with the 100k mile HondaCare warranty. I have 58k miles on my Civic, and just experienced my first mechanical problem this morning.

From a cold start, I allowed the car to warm up for 3-5 minutes before driving. Chicago temps are in the teens to low twenties today, so I figured allowing the vehicle to warm up slightly would be a good idea.

The car performed well from dead start to the first gear threshold. It shifted really hard into second gear. Seeing as the highway is incredibly close to my house, I didn't hit any higher than 2nd gear before getting on the entrance ramp. When I hit the ramp, I noticed I was traveling about 60mph at 4000rpm. Something didn't seem right. I ensured that the transmission was in D4, took my foot off the accelerator, shifted into D3 to see if I could up-shift and the condition did not change. I pulled off at the first exit and into a parking lot.

While in the lot, I ran the full scheme of tests ranging from acceleration, rapid acceleration, shifting into reverse...etc. I still couldn't break the 2nd gear threshold.

I know the proper response to this issue is to get my car into the mechanic for service, but I was wondering what I should expect, if this is covered under warranty, or if someone can explain what the problem actually is... before Honda makes judgment calls and takes my fate(and pocketbook) in their hands.

Any thoughts or explains would be great. Google searches wound up inconclusive.

Re: Hard Shift 1st-2nd, will not shift to third.

I went out on lunch to see if I the problem persisted. The car is now behaving normally. I called Honda Service, explained the problem, and they said "if it isn't broken, we can't troubleshoot it." I'm slightly disheartened, hoping that my transmission didn't see huge amounts of wear and tear. I'll post additional information as I stumble upon it.
