Question Vent Selctor not working on 06 corolla type S

Not my car and dont know ANYTHING about it either. I searched and searched and turned up nothing on the forums. Even thumbed through 30 plus pages of threads hoping to find something. The vent selector wont change off of the face foot option. The knob will turn like there isnt a problem on any option but once its on the option thats working it sorta binds. Wondering if this car is a manual selector or electronic? Thinking maybe iff its manual that the metal shaft either broke out of the plastic fitting or just worked loose? Also does the trim panel "pop" out or are there screws? it looks like the trim piece around the shifter needs to come off first.

Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. Its awfully cold out and to get the car to defrost is taking forever without being able to blow air on the windshield.

Re: Vent Selctor not working on 06 corolla type S

It should be servo motor controlled and getting to that motor usually involves some serious contortion. I think the electrical connector can be accessed by removing the glove box...check for power going to it. Not sure (referring to my '03 Vibe which should be similar) but the motor itself I think is mounted near the firewall in the passenger footwell. Try to listen for it trying to move using a long screwdriver held to the ear. Engine off and the A/C fan off to help remove backrground noise.

Don't know if it is the same part number but I did have a problem with the fresh/recirc servo breaking...one of the gear teeth broke and jammed it. I removed the motor, opened the case, turned the gear 180° and reinstalled. Works perfectly now. A shot in the dark but could be root cause as well.

Good luck!

Re: Vent Selctor not working on 06 corolla type S

Disconnect the neg battery cable.

Remove the center control knob from the heater/a/c control panel and remove the retaining screw.

Pull the center trim panel out (it is held by retaining clips). (Use a small flat screwdriver or trim removal tool)

Your problem MAY just be in the switch itself as the system is electrically controlled.

This (2003 thru 2005) Corolla Haynes manual I have doesn't explain how to get at the blend door or motor.

Disassemble part of the dash to get at it I guess.

When the electric blend door motor went on my '02 Tahoe, I had no qualms about taking it to my longtime independent tech. (headaches I don't need)

I would check where the cable attaches to the control head. You might have to pull the heater control assembly to see the cable end. On my 2005 Corolla everything is cable operated. Hope this helps.
