1997 cavalier leaking antifreeze

I recently Friday Jan 8 took my 97 cavalier to Pepboys to get it fixed bc my car was running terrible through the gears sputtering and hesitating. Turned out I had a o2 sensor heater circuit malfunction,Cylinder 1 was misfiring,EGR valve was bad and catalyst efficiency was below threshold. Anyway $700 later they put in a new ignition coil, new downstream o2 sensor, spark plugs and the car runs great. The next day I went to go to store and saw the low radiator fluid light was on.
So I checked it,filled it up and I looked under my car and could see it dripping on the ground coming off the metal bar that runs across by the firewall . Im not sure exactly where its coming from but also when I turn my heat on the windows fog up and I can smell antifreeze. My stepdad thinks its the heatercore but its not leaking inside the car. Im so frustrated bc I just spent all this money and I now have another problem. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks aton!!

Re: 1997 cavalier leaking antifreeze

Sounds like the heater core has ruptured and it's not leaking into the floor because its leaking into your ventilation system and being blown out the defroster vents! That's really the only way to explain antifreeze inside the car. The heating system is sealed inside the cab by only the heater core itself. Check autozone or rockauto.com. Hope this helps!

That makes sense but my car hasn't ran in about 24hours or so and you can see it dripping underneath still and the coolant is still slowly going down. Would that still be part of the problem you said?

Maybe you can get a backyard mechanic to isolate the heater core from the coolant system, you wont have any heat, but at least you got a car.
