Coolant Leak

Greetings,

I had a posted a few days ago on the issue of luke warm heat in my 1989 buick lesabre when I drive and hot heat when standing still. I have replaced the thermostat on the advice of the forum and it fixed the problem. Now I have a coolant leak that appears to be coming form the oil pan seals. Another great solution would be appreicated. Thanx

Sounds like a pinholed freeze plug. If it's easy to get to, it's a simple pop-out replacement procedure. I have the same problem on my 96 f-150 right now. Lses about a gallon of antifreeze every 2 days. I used soe Bars-Leak in the radiator and it stopped the leak. It's a temporary solution til spring when my shop is rebuilt. Stupid tornadoes! My engine has to be pulled to replace mine. Suggestion: use brass or aluminum "racing style" core (freeze) plugs. They don't rust, and will most likely outlast your engine.

Where is the location of the leak, driver or passenger side and front or back? Keep in mind, you could have a leak from above the pan and it is draining down the block to the pan.

Did you have the coolant leak BEFORE you replaced the thermostat? Have you checked the seals on the thermostat replacement to see if that's leaking?

There are many sources of leaks at the motor such as water pump, the intake manifold tube that is on the heater line, the rubber parts of heater hoses, the ends of the upper and lower hoses where they meet up to the engine. Take a good look after the car's been running is shut off a few minutes.
