Unhappy head torque on a 5.7 vortec

I have a 2000 Tahoe with a 5.7L and am replacing head gaskets. I have a service manual but it is not very accurate. It states tighten all 11mm bolts to 22ft/lb, then all 11mm bolt additional 90 degrees, then bolts 1-8 an additional 90 degrees and bolts 9 & 10 an additional 50 degrees, and all 8mm bolts to 22ft/lb. The problem is mine are all 7/16 bolts with 1/2 heads. Please help

Thanks

Are you using new head bolts?
New bolts usually come with torque specs and sequence

that is for the 5.3l vortec ...do you have a 5.7L ?

make sure the threads are cleaned and apply thread sealant

IF SO torque sequence all to 22ft lbs..then re-torque all 22ft lbs plus 55deg short , 65 deg medium 75 deg long bolt...

re check this for accuracy ...

New bolts should come with torque specs and torque sequence.
Make sure you go threw the torque sequence also.

I show firsts torque all bolts in sequence to 22 ft lbs.

Then in sequence torque long bolts a additional 75 degrees
Medium bolts a additional 65 degrees
And short bolts a additional 55 degrees

Re: head torque on a 5.7 vortec

Thanks for all your help, I hadn't planned on replacing the head bolts. But with the torque angle method I suppose it is a good Idea to replace the bolts. I cleaned the bolts up and they look good, but I know it can be hard to see a stretched bolt. Since the bolts go into water jackets I was going to use teflon paste on the bolts.

Also dose anyone have a picture or link to the correct sequence?

Thanks again

you must use thread sealant..this will protect the threads from corrosion and seal the surfaces...the use of lubricants is a no no...

the reason you should replace bolts is because these are streched , and because of this it would be questionable , that they would be able to hold ...
