Unhappy 99 Sunfire starts but shuts off after a second or two

My girlfriend just bought a 99 sunfire with 54,000 miles on it brought it home. Stopped and put gas in it parked it over night now won't run. It will start then shuts back off after 1 to 2 seconds. I noticed that when you turn the key to the run position that none of the gauges work and the digital odometer doesn't light up or show anything. I can hear the fuel pump turn on to pressurize the system. I also noticed that when you turn the key to the run the daytime running lights are not on either. I'm kinda in the dark here with this car since I've never owned one to know about this stuffed I just mentioned (DLR come on before or after the car is started and the gauges but I think they should work in the on/run key position regardless if engine is running or not.) She waited two and half weeks to get this car and now she upset and crying. If anyone could help shine some light on these problems would make us happy.

Re: 99 Sunfire starts but shuts off after a second or two

Check the big maxi fuses in the power box uder the hood if equipped. Chances are one of them blew. They're quite cheap to replace. Happened to me once at a red light. Old explorer just died. Don't just pull them out and eyeball them either. Turn the key on and check both pins on each of them with a test light. Use the same method for under-dash fuses to ensure whether or not they're bad.
