1998 Jeep Cherokee limited Gearbox knocking sound
Hi,
I have a 1998 jeep cherokee, at 1300 rpm there is a knocking sound from the gearbox possibly the torque converter. Its an automatic transmission. Could anyone please suggest where the actual problem could be as i don't want to dismantle the whole gearbox without knowing where the problem actually is. Thanx |

Re: 1998 Jeep Cherokee limited Gearbox knocking sound
I recall another thread with similar sounds....your torque converter bolts could be loose. If you remove the cover between the engine and trans, that should expose where it's bolted to the flex plate. With the vehicle in neutral and engine off you should be able to rotate to get to them all.

Re: 1998 Jeep Cherokee limited Gearbox knocking sound
How many miles and what engine?
Is the sound while you are sitting still, or moving? Does it do it in all gears, in neutral, park, and under what other conditions do you experience the noise?
