01 tahoe starter pre cranking/stuck

hey guys.....new guy here....i would always hit the AF forums for tips on painting and stuff....but never really for a problem with my RIDE....till now.......so finally decided to become a member.....Soooo here it goes
ive asked this question many times on other forums..but always with no ANSWER....seems like my problem isnt very common...1 guy even mentioned Buyin a new Truck.....heh....with these times....i dont think so ...............and sides i worked my ass off to pay off my truck...........there nothing like finally seein that title under ur NAME........
ok so this started in the summer ...and stopped for a while...but now its consistent..
I put the key in the ignition and turn it once..and the truck tries to start before i can fully turn the key all the way....and it sounds like a mess...engine runnin and the starter screeching....
to stop this and have the truck run normal...i have to quickly put it into Drive or Reverse and everything is fine.............but when i go to Park or Neutral ....the mesh of engine/starter noice is present.
ive had the ignition switched / key tumbler changed....i believe the starter has been changed too......
what other things should i look into that might be causin this problem?
fuse?
relay?
solenoid?
park activator?
some wire makin contact?

Re: 01 tahoe starter pre cranking/stuck

Switching is not checking.
Switching is throwing parts at it.
Checking is proper testing.

Check switch for shorted or burnt or crossed wire.

Check for 12 volts on start wire from switch in the wrong position.
Should only have 12 volts in start position.
Any adjustment on switch position ?

Any add on remote start crap on it?

Find the start wire at switch and check it.

I would check that the added wiring is not interferring with the movement of the ignition switch operation...

with your description its engaging the starter in the ignition on mode rather than the crank position..?

yes....its engaging the starter in the Ignition On Mode....rather than the crank position, but as of late....all that has suddenly stopped and the Truck starts Fine...........im sure it will act up again ...........as in previous times when ive decided to take her down to a mechanic ....she wont act up...but once home....she starts with the BS again ...lol

Re: 01 tahoe starter pre cranking/stuck

Robby,

j cAT makes a good point there.

Unless you enjoy problems, I'd kindly suggest you do as he suggested.

If there IS a wire (periodically) touching the ignition it may have swung out of the way temporarily, waiting for the chance to go back.
