WIP - Tamiya Nismo Fairlady Z

Hi guys,
Took me awhile to decide which kit to do next, but decided on this one as i dont have any Z cars in my cabinet. Seems to be another nice kit from tamiya even if a little basic.

So far all ive done is mask off the skirts and have sprayed them gun metal.

Now i have to mask those bits off and paint the rest very soon.

Thank you. Ill post some body pics when i decide what colour lol.

Re: WIP - Tamiya Nismo Fairlady Z

Why didn't you paint the body first and then mask off the lower portions and spray gunmetal? Just one masking job instead of two.

I'm starting to like the nismo Z even though the bottom portions are plastic in real life. Keep us posted.

Re: WIP - Tamiya Nismo Fairlady Z

Thanks guys for the comments.
I thought it would be easier to mask the skirts off painted than the whole body, but each to there own. Anyway heres what it looks like after ive painted the body and removed the masking. Its sitting out in the shed at the moment with clear coat on.

Paint is tamiya metallic black.

C & C welcome.
Thanks

Re: WIP - Tamiya Nismo Fairlady Z

Hi guys just a little update.
Painted the clear coat yesterday and this is what its like today. Ill leave it for about a week then polish and wax. It looks alot better in person than i can get in the pics.

And these two pics are trying to capture the metallic paint which is tamiya TS black.

Thanks for looking.

Re: WIP - Tamiya Nismo Fairlady Z

Thanks guys.
Just a small update at the moment, will have more later on.

This is just a pic after polishing and while doing the window trims. And yes i always paint the trims with a brush, partly because i dont have an air brush and its easy.

Im quite pleased with the shine, mine shinest one to date.

C & C welcome.
Thanks

Can You tell me - did You sanding body with 2000 sandpaper before polishing? When I look on bonnet looks like polish without sanding. Anyway nice progress

Nah no sanding, i dont sand after ive painted to scared it will ruin paint. I just use tamiya rubbing/polishing compound and then just put some tamiya wax on.

Re: WIP - Tamiya Nismo Fairlady Z

Hi just a little update for you.

Just a couple of pics of the 90% complete body, ive somehow built this model backwards lol

Heres a pic of the brakes, i had a little trouble with the brembo decals, the ones in the kit got ruined so i had to search my spare decals and was happy when i found some spares.

This pic of the underside. I think it came out alright considering its all molded together which makes it a real pain to detail paint nicely.

And this is where its at so far, just have to do the interior. I put the body on the chassis just to see what it looks like.

Hope you like it.

Thanks.

Re: WIP - Tamiya Nismo Fairlady Z

I think you did a really well job with the clearcoat. Hard to believe you don't have an airbrush and yet make such a nice model.
