Headlight switch

I just installed the 5th headlight switch in my '97 Cav since buying it in
2003. When purchased, it had 66K miles on the odometer. It now has just over 204K on it. Thats 4 switches in 148K miles or about 1 switch every 37K miles. Always the same problem - something inside breaks and there is no longer a "snap" between hi and low beam. You then have to wedge a piece of folded paper behind the switch handle to get the lights to stay on.
This seems excessive, given that my '92 Metro has over 300K on it and the switch is still original. My '91 Nissan pickup has over 240K and I just replaced the original switch. Hell, my '69 Camaro still has the original switch and works fine with unknown mileage in excess of 40 years old.
Is it just me or are these switches a weak link?
Is there another heavier switch that may fit and last longer?
At $90 a piece, this is getting expensive.
I realize these things are made in China, but should last longer than a year and a half.
Thanks,

Re: Headlight switch

I assume that's not an OEM replacement... if it is, you're way too hard on them, just need a gentle pull If not, buy one of the better ones. Mine's made it to 99,3xx miles, and judging from the worn off labels, it's probably the original.
