01 Monte low coolant level light

I have an 01 Monte with 90k miles the low coolant level light started coming on when I start the car. I have checked the level in the resevoir and in the radiator an it is fine. Does anyone know why this light would be coming on? Thanks

Re: 01 Monte low coolant level light

Mine does this occasionally. The coolant level sensor may have some gunk clogging it. Or it may need to be replaced. The sensor is located on the back of the radiator near the battery. Remove the battery to get to it. Unplug the wire. To avoid draining the coolant, I put a wad of plumber's putty over the hole when I remove the sensor. The sensor has a retaining clip you have to remove and then it just pulls out. You can try cleaning the inside of the sensor with carb cleaner to see if that fixes it, or just replace it.
