Delco radio AUX?

I have the original Delco Electronics Radio/CD player in my 2000 Silverado, can anyone tell me what the AUX is for? Can I somehow connect a mp3 player to it?

In my 2000 z71 the aux is for the factory cd player instaiien in the console
