Tip for replacing wheel bearings

So after hammering and chiseling and PB Blastering my old front wheel bearing for about 20 minutes today with no headway, I discovered a great little trick for popping those stubborn guys out!

Don't remove the T-55 mounting bolts all the way...back them off enough for the wheel bearing to still spin without interference. Then, line up one of the two small holes over the bolts in turn, and slip a hefty 3/8" washer in between the bolt and the stud plate, so that when you back off the bolt it presses the bearing assembly out of the knuckle.

Wish I had thought of this when I did my previous bearing; so I hope this helps somebody out!

Re: Tip for replacing wheel bearings

Great tip!

I imagine you went around and backed each one out a few turns and kept rotating until it was free?

One thing I would add is that it's probably a good idea to remove the bolts completly, then grease up the threads and put them back in before beginning.
