Idler Pulley questions

Hi all,

I've been fighting a squealing idler pulley for a while now, and I'm onto my third one. This is on a 99 tahoe (old style) with a 5.7l engine with A/C.

This time I went to Advance, and I checked in the computer and the pulley they gave is smooth, without any grooves for the belt. The previous two have the grooves in them.

The part is 'Factory Air 45975'

Can a couple of you with similar setups check to see if your pulley is grooved or smooth?

Thanks

Re: Idler Pulley questions

The two marks are on the tensioner, not the idler pulley

If the back, (smooth side) of a serpentine belt contacts the pulley, the pulley must be smooth. If the grooves on the belt contact the pulley, the pulley must have grooves in it.

Re: Idler Pulley questions

Idler pulley...idler tensioner pulley two totally different things. Got it now, I guess I looked past that when I bought the stuff. Now that I look it up it all makes sense.
