MG EX 257 Le Mans 2001

Hello all! Well its been a while to say the least. My life over the past 5 years has been all over the place. A hurricane, drunkenness, and fatherhood. Well ive found some real balance in my life and its time to start modeling seriously again. I had a lot of WIPs last time I was around these parts but my workshop is all over the place. Im going to start a new project while I make some order of my den. Hopefully by the time I finish this I will have some order and found all my tools and I can get backon to some of my older projects. Its really great to be back though I feel like this is my first model.

Anyhow, this is the Profil 24 kit of the 2001 Le Mans MG EX 257. This car has no particular meaning to me. I cant even say Ive seen it race. But I came across this kit at Strada when I owned a 71' MGB GT a few years ago so I bought it. Overall the kit is so-so. I think the body is pretty accurate but there is a lot of work to be done to get it looking like the 1:1. A lot of flash and mold lines. I think the molds were getting a bit old. The wheels are really warped but im going to build this box stock just to get me back into the groove of things. Heres a few pics. Primered the body after a lot of sanding and filing. Should get some paint on tonight.

Enjoy!

Hi, good to see you back again!

A very interesting subject IMHO. I've never heard of this kit before and the livery is quite striking in its starkness.

Looking forward to seeing more soon, I hope.

Hi Chad! Glad to see you back in shape.

To me the subject is interesting also: ever meant interesting those separate fenders, a kinda "pontoon fender" of 2K year.

I'm tuned!

Re: MG EX 257 Le Mans 2001

Small update...

Got the body painted. Its in the dehydrator now so I may start putting on the decals tonight. I used Tamiya Gunmetal and Park Green. I think they accurately depict the colors used in 2001. In 2002 they went to a more fluorescent green and I found a lot of pics of that car. Finally I found a pic of the two side by side and realized the 2001 did in fact use a darker green. Also in retrospect, it may have been easier to paint the body green first then mask and spray the gunmetal. I did the opposite which made the mask job more difficult. Sorry for the picture quality, its night time and I dont have a real photo set up yet. Thanks for all the comments, its great to be back!

The paint looks a bit dark, but you did state its a different version. Masking job came out nice. Keep us updated, and don't dissappear again.

Yeah the picture at the top is the 2002 test version. Also the photo was at night with no flash, the green is actually lighter, brighter.

Re: MG EX 257 Le Mans 2001

Well most of the Decal work is done. These decals suck. They are thick and when I apply Micro-set they disintegrate. So its been quite a process doing this, very frustrating. But im almost done know. Bonus question, can anybody find the huge mistake I made? lol
