97 Venture Studder...

Ok...so my 97 Venture has a wierd issue. 160,000+ miles, top end rebuild a few years ago. When I am cruising anywhere from 45-65 usually on a slight incline or flat road, the van studders like as if it is going to die on me. But if I step on the gas slightly the studder goes away and runs alright. However, the studder does not happen when I have the cruise control on. I have changed the fuel filter, problem still existed. I have ran multiple fuel system cleaners through over the past year, and the problem still exists. I even tried seafoam, half in the gas and half in the oil...that seemed to help a little, but the studder was still there. I am going for a long drive in a couple weeks for a good weekend in Vegas...I don't want this van to leave me and my friends stranded. Could it be a vacuume leak? What other things should I look at? I am replacing the radiator this weekend and will attempt to track down any potential issues while doing that. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Re: 97 Venture Studder...

Checked / changed the spark plugs lately? Sounds like it could be ignition related, and at 160K it would be well past time. Also, plug wires should be checked / changed as well.

Re: 97 Venture Studder...

Oil changed...no change in the studder. The van passed smog just fine. The Seafoam helped a little bit but did not get rid of it completely. I have yet to check out the spark plugs...

Re: 97 Venture Studder...

From a purely symptomatic perspective, I've seen a bad plug on more than one occasion (and more than one vehicle) act this way. My vote is for plugs...
