98 lesabre has squeal when cold

my 98 lesabre has what sounds like a belt noise coming from (I think) the driver side. it does not seem to be the serpentine belt. goes away after warming up, suspect it to be related to the trans as it appears to be slipping while noise is going on when in first, although if i get to the higher gears everything seems fine even if the noise has not gone away yet!
thanks for any advice and have a safe and happy holiday.

Tough diagnosis from here, no? Anyway, if the trans is slipping check the fluid naturally and see if it is burnt, you may not be starting in 1st also. Without onsite inspection that's the best I can do.

Try listening for the noise with the hood up before the start the car. Listen to see if you can determine what region the sound comes from. The belt is on the passenger side and a squeal could be from the tensioner, water pump, power steering pump, or the belt on that side.

had this noise before and removed the belt, but the noise was still there. seems cold weather related. thinking it's a tranny solenoid
