2002 Taurus 3.0 oil pressure

I have a 2002 Taurus, 3.0 with 108,000 miles..well taken care of. It has just started to have a flickering oil pressue light after it has been driven for an hour and good and warm at a lower idle. After the rpm's are raised it goes out. There is no noise or rattles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: 2002 Taurus 3.0 oil pressuure

If you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge you could screw it in in place of the oil pressure switch to see if you really have a concern or not. Or you could just replace the switch as hope the indication goes away. It's pretty common for oil pressure switches to fail. A new switch probably costs about the same amount as a mechanical gauge to test the pressure so the switch may be the place to start.

Re: 2002 Taurus 3.0 oil pressuure

dont know if you have fixed this oil problem but i may have the solution for you as well as a preventive maintenance solution to save you one heck of a headache and money. I saw a thread in taurusclub.com. you have the 3.0l there is a cam sensor that controls your ignition spark and also does something with the oil pressure i believe. they tend to fail and should be replaced every 100,000 miles. i got this info from this site, i will send you the link. but beware DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT BUY A DORMAN SYCHRONIZER SENSOR! read the thread completely from Pro Ford, his and others experiences with this issue.

i hope this helps you out.

here is the link

and this link
http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/inde...topic=50771&hl=
please read them, help yourself out and see if this may be your problem

I also agree with shorod on the oil pressure sensor, they do go bad, replaced 2 of those in my explorer.
