stuck cd

2000 Silo, single cd player with a stuck cd inside. Eject won't release it.

Anyone have a proven method as to how to repair this?

Just take it all apart?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in most cases there is nothing short of taking the unit partially apart to be able to remove the CD. I had this issue happen a few months back and researched for a few days on the best way to go about getting the CD out. ost people that mentioned anything online said it was very difficult to do. I did see an entry in my search of a company that you can send your radio to and for about $75 they will get the CD out and send both back to you. (Not sure if that is worth it though unless the CD is very important to you.) What happened that I was able to get the CD free came about one day while my daughter was playing with the radio controls one day while I was driving. She was hitting the buttons at random in an attempt to get the CD to come out and by some miracle it popped out. I no longer play CDs in my unit, I use a transmitter plugged into the power outlet with an mp3 player.
Some things I found out while doing some research into this issue. Homemade CDs are especially prone to having this occur and the chances are greater if you put your own labels on your CDs( the label can raise up and get stuck inside the unit.)I guess certain GM radios and certain GM model vehicles are apt to have this occur as well, primarily the minivans and SUVs. Myfriend is a service manager at one of our local Chevy dealers and he said he sees this happen quite a bit. He said one other, cheaper option I have is to go and buy a used unit for around $100 and install it.
One word of caution as well to anyone who may be reading this in the future with a similar issue. I was talking to a rep at Crutchfield as I was considering replacing my unit that had the stuck CD inside with an aftermarket model. He told me to make sure whatever unit I chose had the capabilities to work with the factory sound system if you have the DVD system in the back of the vehicle. Apparently most aftermarket units will not work with the factory sound system and while you are still able to play the DVDs in the separate player in back, the sound will not be played on the van's speakers as it is channeled through the factory radio and most aftermarket models aren't set up to do this. So make sure whatever model you choose, it will work in conjunction with the factory installed DVD system in the vehicle.

Did your CD player give you any signs of impending trouble? Mine started displaying a CD READ ERR message on occasion and every once in awhile it would skip and the next time you would play the CD it would play fine. These symptoms are common signs your CD player may stop working soon as mentioned in some of the search results I came across when I researched this issue earlier this past year.

Thanks for the reply. This is the first time this has happened in this van (as far as I know).

I bought the van off-lease and during the time I drove it I think I used the player once or twice but no indication of interruption.

I safety certified the van and gave it to our daughter who said, " You didn't tell me the CD player ate CD's!'.

Well, Duh? How was I supposed to know?

Anyway, I thought I'd throw the question out there and see if maybe a cheap fix.

She has a portable player she can use anyway.

just ran accross your post. sometimes if you can hear the cd player trying to eject the cd you can put another cd about half way into the cd player then hit eject. Seems like it has to do with the thickness or the player grabing to cd to eject. had this issue in a cheap cd player. anyway thought i would throw this out there.
