My Stanza Jumped Into Neutral on the HWY and won't go into gear.

.. .. I know this is probably a simpler fix than it sounds. The transmission isn't burnt, there was no smoke and no sounds, i floored it on a long drive to try and switch lanes up a hill and it reved hard and lost the gear. The car starts, but all gears act like neutral.

I opened the transaxle case and the lever is going into park and shifting and what not. I actually broke the gasket and now its got a leak but i can deal with that. the point there is i can spin the axle with my hand using one of the cranks (differential or whatever) this cover i beleive isn't supposed to be removed.

The Millers or Miltons guide to AT's for that year points out that there are certain fail safe (damage controls) or sensors... .. and that all symptoms were showing that it was simply a lack of transmission fluids.

Does anyone think i can :

1. fix the leak
2. fill the friggin ATFluids..
3. Disconnect the battery
4. wait 5-10 minutes.. clearing sensors..
5. start it up and drive away?

Its about 60 miles away on the side of the road... ..
