service light (wrench icon)

HAD DTC0341
FOUND CONNECTOR UNDER COILS UNLATCHED
CLEARED CODE WITH SCAN TOOL
NO DTCs READ
SERVICE LIGHT STILL ON
IF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM, WILL IT CLEAR AFTER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF MILES/RUN CYCLES?

If your troublecode was indeed a PO341, that is indicated by the "Service Engine Soon" light and not the wrench light that simply says "Service". The wrench light doesn't come on with issues associated with the engine/powertrain. It requires a more advanced scanner to check the code(s) that are causing the wrench light to come on. A run of the mill inexpensive OBD-II reader cannot scan these codes.

As far as the P0341 code goes, check/replace the spark plugs, wires, and the grounds on the coils that go to the mounting bolts of the coils/ignition module. Those grounds sometimes become corroded and cause that code. Only use standard copper core spark plugs (NO platinums).

Re: service light (wrench icon)

When the key is initially put in the RUN position, check to make sure all the icons light up. If the wrench bulb is out, the SES light will turn on.

Also, IIRC if the battery light is burnt out and doesn't come on during the initial self test, the alternator won't charge and the wrench light will come on too.

Could it be something as simple as a bulb burnt out?

Re: service light (wrench icon)

Hi everyone,
I believe I have fixed the wrench icon problem, (without having to pay someone $70 to read the code.....which did not display using an inexpensive OBDII reader.) See if you can figure out what the problem was. After visiting the emission test station and getting rejected for "readiness monitors not set", (and having driven 400 miles) the kid working there said something that got me thinking. I fixed the problem. I got it (the service icon) to turn off. I will post the answer next week after I pass my emission test.

Re: service light (wrench icon)

passed emission test finally

1)readiness monitors were not set because of..............a bad thermostat!
the engine never got up to operating temp (only got up to about 160F) I found this on my own with a thermometer. That took care of the readiness issue and the SERVICE LIGHT (wrench icon)
2)then got a DTC 0420.........bad CAT (converter)

I suppose the better scanner would have flagged the bad thermostat(???)

thanks everyone...I was able to save a few bucks
