93 F250 just randomly quits?
i have a 93 F 250 5.0 2wd standard cab with dual tanks and electric lift gate on back. The truck has been to a few Garages to be checked out and had no luck?
The truck will just Randomly stall and not restart, not even with Starting fluid, it just cranks and won't even fire? let it sit a day and it will start and run fine then do it again restarts in 1 min, stalls and repeat... then run for a few hrs and stall and not even fire ? and start the cycle all over? hear is what has been done checked for vacuum leaks, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, plugs, battery, and alternator done some fuel tank and line checking and just running of 1 tank at a time till empty and does the same thing with both tanks? had wire harness checked and a few wires repaired but just chasing my tail it seems?? Please Help I have run out of ideas and quickly running out of money and the truck is super clean has 92,000 miles. ![]() Thank you Roost |

Remove the TFI module, take it to Vatozone & have it checked. You can buy one of these, and run a KOEO error code scan when its misbehaving. An error code scan is a good idea anyway. $20./same day shipping:Equus Innova 3145 OBD-I Ford Scan Tool(digital numeric display)

Re: 93 F250 just randomly quits?
Just a thought, when the truck is stalled and won't restart for anything - have you checked for spark? I'd be willing to say it's something to do with your ignition system based on your starting fluid theory. I'd be willing to say that there is a bad module or corroded wire somewhere... just my 2 cents
Second thought - reason for editing - ignition switch? I'm dumb when it comes to the early 90's trucks - but if it's got a coil on it, then you should have power to it when the key is on... check that when it stalls out and no restart... |

Re: 93 F250 just randomly quits?
Remove the SPOUT plug next time & see if it will start. This takes the ECM & TFI out of the equasion. Coils don't usually come back from the dead. TFI's many times will come back for some encores. Usually if it's on it's last leg, tapping it w/a wrench at Idle will cause it to stutter and/or fall out. As I mentioned , you can take the TFI in & have it checked. Then there's the PIP sensor but it's a lot easier to replace the distributor itself. The PIP feeds the TFI, which fires the coil, unless the Spout plug is removed, where the TFI is bypassed (This produces ignition w/o ECU timing advance)

Re: 93 F250 just randomly quits?
Thanks for the input guys, I am going to do some checking on a new TFI and check the Spark output plug and all the wires in the area.? that makes sense to me now , I was told that there is a fuel cut off switch on the passenger side kick panel that can do the same thing and to check that and bypass or replace is that possible???
thanks again ill post an update soon as I get it done. |
