How much oil

Hello again all,

I'm getting ready to have the delaership give me my first lube oil and filter on my newly bought Impala SS but I don't care too much for the synthetic oil they have in stock which is Castrol "Syntec". I might just buy and take the oil to him to use during the service so I wonder just how many quarts does this beast take?????

the 5.3 L engine should be 6qts...you have a 5.3L in this ? year impala...?

new do you mean 2010 impala...or 1994-1996 ?

EDIT: your dead battery posting says 2008 impala ss this should be 6.1 qts with the LS4 engine..

Re: How much oil

j Cat, good catch ,thanks for correcting that although the assumption is always checking the oil when done.

this ls4 engine is very different than the vortec 5.3L...

using oil to control valves...some have installed 7 qt oil pans with high flow rate oil pumps..some have found if the oil level drops slightly the oil sump runs dry at high rev's...

I have no experience about this...just interesting ..

I agree with you ,,, just make sure when oil is changed that, it is at the full mark....if you do it or someone else !

Re: How much oil

Thanks guys/gals for the information. My 08' Impala SS is due for a lube oil and filter this coming Saturday and asking them to switch it over to a synthetic I need to find out how much money they'll charge me for. The 6 quart igure sound rights so that will be something I can get myself and take it in OR I'll just have then do it for me and pay the price.

Thanks again,

rimfire,22
