Already a dead battery

Hello to all,

This past May I bought a new 08' Impala SS as a dealer left-over from the previous year but still new as can be! I was at the local car wash and the detailers told me the battery went dead as they had to battery boost the engine just to get it started. Since then I've had no issues so I'm puzzled at the situation. I wonder if the dealer just didn't quick charge the battery before I signed the contract?

In addition I noticed the battery is pretty small. Is this the same on all Impalas?????

Re: Already a dead battery

Just bought an 08 myself, although not brand new and not an SS. Guess what, I just had the battery replaced under warranty. Sounds like they had a run of bad batteries in the 08 year. Didn't notice that the battery in mine was particularly small.

magnetman,

If you look again you'll notice that it is unusually small for such a big car. Mine is and will have the dealership check it out. Since then I've had no issues when I turn the key. I still wonder about the incident.

Re: Already a dead battery

Mine was an intermittent thing. It seemed to turn over sluggishly when I was out getting gas and stopping by Wal-Mart (the day before heading on a trip for Thanksgiving). I remarked to my wife that "if we come back with the same battery I'll be surprised". Lo and behold the next day, when trying to start the car to head out on our trip, it turned over just a fraction and then stopped dead. A couple more clicks of the ignition and it turned over. I was expecting to get to my destination and having to call the dealer there to have it replaced. Every day we were there it started like nothing was wrong... even in 30° weather. We made it back and everything was fine until it was in the teens for the high and below zero for the low. It stranded my wife at work. Took it in the next day and had it tested and it was bad.

If all connections look good I'd go have it tested to see how if it's good

Re: Already a dead battery

magnetman,

Mine seems to happen sporaticallt as well. It goes away when I take it for a spi on the freeway for about an half hour/one hour so I guess the alternator purs backin amps to turn over the engine. I have a battery booster in the car now so just in case it goes south again.

This coming Saturday it's ready for it's first oil change so I'll have the deaoeship look it over much more carefully. With any hope they'll just replace the battery fee of charge.
