ABS & All Trac Dash Lights On PA

I have a 1998 Buick Park Avenue. Both the ABS and All Trac dash lights are on. I checked the sensors at each wheel and all are operational. I've been told that the sensor reading rust on a hub may be the cause. I check around 30 pages of the Buick Forum, but didn't see this problem discussed. Suggestions before I get out my sandpaper? Thanks much.

Have it scanned for trouble codes. Once you know why the light is on you'll have a better idea of where to start looking.

The traction light is on because the ABS light is on.

Re: ABS & All Trac Dash Lights On PA

My 97 had an issue with the ground wires on the fwd side of the block. It's located close to the back end of the A/C compressor. Once I fixed it both lights went out. Might be worth a look, I know one is a ground for the A/C clutch but not sure where the others go. Good luck.

Thanks folks. Scanned with my Actron OBD II and got a code for #3 cylinder misfire ( not likely the issue). I'll be looking at other solution this Saturday when I have it in the garage. I'll post when I look at it. Many thanks.

I second Airjer's suggestion.

You need to find a dealership or shop that has a ABS capable scanner which is different than the OBDII scanner. A local shop quoted me $30 to scan. I believe it would be well worth the money, the code will direct you in the correct direction and save you some coin in the long run instead of quessing.

good luck

Would it be worthwhile to purchase an ABS capable scanner - perhaps it might have other functions as well? I have my mini-fleet of 6 cars is routinely service - including my project car - MR2 - 1985. If so, what type of scanner would you recommend?

IMO there are some good products out there that you could use with a laptop computer, these are somewhat spendy. In order to have a ABS capable scanner you will need to get special software for it.

Here is a couple links for you to check out:

Many thanks. I'll check them out. I much prefer to invest in my own capability rather than invest in someone elses. I'll post to let you know my results.
