Cool Volkswagen T3 Westfalia Camper w/ high roof (finished)

Hello fellow modelers,

today I finished the T3 Westfalia Camper that I've been working on for the last couple of weeks.

This is a farewell gift to a colleague who retires from work.
In the 80's and 90's he owned a camper (almost) exactly like the model pictured here.

The camper is based on the following Revell kit:

The low profile roof included in the kit is not correct for the camper, because the one he owned had the high profile roof. I scratch built the roof, using various styrene sheet, profiles and putty. The sides of the roof are CNC'd for better accuracy. I drew the panels and a friend of mine milled them for me. Thank you very much for that! All decals are also custom made.

The little trailer is completely scratch build. Fenders and wheels are from the Tamiya Lotus 7 kit, everything else from the parts box or scratched. The trailer hitch on the T3 features a little socket for the trailer wiring.

Well, on to the pics. If you have any questions, comments or critics please let me know. Thank you for watching!

The map tells you from which country this dio was inspired...

This is how it all started:

... and this is what it looks quite a few hours later:

Hope you enjoyed the build. I am really looking forward to see his face when I give it to him tomorrow

Very well done diorama of an interesting subject. It is crying out for figures though, especially a bikini-clad blonde in the chaise lounge.

HI

looks good your T3, I think it was a great surprise for your friend

only few things

- I think there are too much maps in the interior
- there are few holes in the high roof, maybe from the putty ?
- the high roof fits not 100% to the Revell roof ?

Hi Mikezibit, thanks for your reply and the kind words. The picture and faults you are referring to are from when the roof was not glued on yet. Yes, there is a gap between the front end of the roof and the windscreen frame. I have no idea how to fill it w/o making it look stupid

BTW... the maps on the kitchen table habe been replaced by a newspaper
