2005 Yukon 5.3 Liter Oil related questions
Hello,
My Owners manual states that the suggested oil filter for a 5.3 L FI engine is AC delco PF46.(This is what is installed currently) However, when I research this @ Wally World in their book and electronic search it spits out AC Delco PF61. Wally world was sold out of the PF 61, but had the PF 46. I couldn't directly compare them, but I figured the PF 61 is probably longer for more filtering. Would using the PF61 be alright? Does anyone follow the engine oil life as it appears on the D.I.C.? The manual says it can go for a year before oil change but no more than a year. We don't drive this very far or hard. Any advice/observations are greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Kevin |

Re: 2005 Yukon 5.3 Liter Oil related questions
The filter would be fine. But the oil should be done every 3000 miles to prevent engine buildup especially if you dont drive it or drive it very little.
just my opinion. |

Re: 2005 Yukon 5.3 Liter Oil related questions
Lots of pros and cons about oil change intervals. The interval program in modern a pcm is pretty good, 1 year drive time would assume based on sensor inputs, that all the driving was done over the road in moderate temps. Anyway IMHO the 3k oil change is dead unless it took 6 months in short trip cold weather driving. Todays oil and engine components are so superior to the " old days" that 6k/6 months is almost a standard deal, again based on usage conditions.

Re: 2005 Yukon 5.3 Liter Oil related questions
valid point as well. but I am old school Just recently installed a new motor in my 93 GMC pickup with 235980 on odo with that oil change interval its whole life my granfather owned this before he died years ago. So left it to my father and he continued with the schedule. I purchased it from him 6 years ago. Dif the same schedule as they did for awhile thought id freshen it up. Well when I pulled it apart very very clean no sludge no noticable upper cylinder ring cam looked like you just put it in Crank bearings and rod bearings also worn but not destroyed like you would think Needless to say every 3000 Rain or shine
