Re: Distributor problem
The way I did this was put the number one cylinder at TDC and place the rotor at about 6:30 if I remember right thats the number one cylinder (follow your plug wire to be sure). That should get you somewhat close then you can start moving teeth one way or the other.
(make sure its compression stroke and not exhaust stroke) |

As said bring no 1 cyliner up to TDC on compression stroke. You will need to remove no 1 spark plug and feel for compression stroke. Is this the new flat top dist or old style? If new flat top dist. http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga...hp?photo=51302 And check camshaft retard setting with a engine capable scanner after it starts and runs. If old style just point dist rotor to no one plug wire and go threw the base time procedure when it starts.

Allright everything is put back together. What I did about the ditributor was line up 0 on the the timing plate and move rotor the cyl. 1. went to go start it up and all I get was pops and a little fire out the tb. what did I do wrong, is the dist. still off.

One exhaust stroke. You need to get it on TDC compression stroke, For that remove no 1 cyl plug and hold finger over not in plug hole and bump starter over untill you feel compression stroke then move piuston to TDC. Feel for that with a plastic straw threw plug hole. The set dist to rotor to no 1 plug wire, And make sure you have firing order right. wires on right plugs. No 1357 on drivers side and 2468 on passenger side. firing order clockwise 18436572

Re: Distributor problem
Just found tdc in cyl. 1 and lined up rotor. guess I was not lining it up right. But when I was sure I had it right it started up no problem. And the spary pattern seems normal its idles the same as before its 850 rpm and that is what it was before. Is that the right rpms at idle in park?

Remember there is two TDC's one exhaust and one compresion stroke. You have to have it on compression stroke TDC. Idle RPM is preset and controlled by PCM. Disable spark control bypass and Set base time with timing light and you should be ready to go. Good Luck
