Re: 05 ascender

From what I can see your check engine light is on with engine running?
Right?
Many thins from leaving gas cap lose to bad engione sensore aor engine not running right can cause check engine light to come on.
If so you need to find some place with a OBD11 scanner or a engine capable scanner that can read engine running codes.
Some parts places and AUTO Zone will give you a free code check.
Do notby any parts they say is bad yet.
Just.
Get codes and post back code or codes no and someone will help.

Common issue 128, the t'stat needs to be replaced. Someone has to really listen to this noise for a proper diagnosis. Anything from here is guesswork at best. What were you told on the estimates given?

Is the noise a loud clicking or knocking noise?

Code P0327 is not cause by noise but from incorect knock sensor voltage or wiring circuit.

Code 128 is caused by weak or bad termostat.

Install a new good brand of themrostat.

Clear codes and see what or if any come back.

If code P0327 or any other codes come back post back.

If code p0327 returns you need to have the front knock sensor or wiring circuit checked out.

Let us know how it goes.

On that it would be best to find a good repair shop.
And also have them listen tothe engine noise.

Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.
