2002 1500 sierra starting problems

2002 gmc sierra 1500 4.8l v8

3 days ago truck won't start. 1st assumption was battery so i called roadside and had truck jumped. got approx 1/4 mile down the road vehicle stalled. called roadside had truck towed to mechanic. tech got in truck and started with no problems. tech checked battery and alternator and both checked out. had oil change and fuel filter changed. drove truck for rest of day no problems. early evening truck won't start again. called mechanic and jumped truck again in route to mechanic vehicle dies again. had mechanic replace battery wires figured corrosion in wire restricting power supply. this am truck still won't start without jump. will get battery checked one more time. Anybody aware of any problems like this with gm motors?

Welcome to AF, is the battery dead do the lites/horn work? Basic electrical tests should show what is going on here.

Re: 2002 1500 sierra starting problems

if basic test is for battery and alternator they checked out. needs a jump to start. has died twice. between the two stalls started without jump at lest 5 times. problem is not constant and i was hoping to find someone who has had same issues and possible solution to solve.

This is not specific to this truck, something is draining the battery then the jump is required, someone has to check for drains.

Re: 2002 1500 sierra starting problems

I had that problem with my 2001 sierra one cold winter night. It turned out that the battery was gong to hell on the inside so it wasn't making a connection all the time. Replaced the battery and has ran good ever since...

Check and make sure connection at the battery is good and tight. Check and make sure battery terminals are not stripped out. This sounds funny but my wife's car did the same exact thing. Wouldn't start without a jump.
