2000 silvy heater problems

My 2000 silverado heater does not work to well It does not get very hot. The thermostat is opening and the heater core is not leaking. Any ideas???

the heater core needs to be cleaned/flushed out in most cases. if the hoses are not hot to from the heater core this is what is wrong.

remove the hoses at the engine then using a water hose slowly crank up the pressure to flush out the core in both directions...

If you somehow mixed dexcool with another coolant that does not state as meeting the GM spec. you may need to drain the entire coolant system if you find black goo causing you problems..

the 5.3L engine coolant system has a total capacity of 4.5gallons..

so if you just drain the radiator about 2 gallons remains inside the engine.

If you turn the thermostat all the way up. And you put the fan speed on one then the heat is hot. If you turn the fan speed up past one then the air is not hot. What is the deal??? Still havent flushed the heater core yet.

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=501522 change the cabin air filters! replacement inst are in the owners manual. 9 time out of 10 this ia whats wrong. good luck

Back flush it as instructed earlier and change the cabin air filters. You'll be much happier.
