whats up all? I have a honda, nobody is perfect, i live in ohio n out here its damn near impossible to find anything but yotas or hondas, anyway i was perusing a local yard when i found gold, i think, a black 240sx, the problem is that i have no clue the year or model, is there anyway to readd the serial number for the years? the yard owner said some husband gave it up cuz his wife was on her 3rd DUI n it was her ride, it has a 2 tiny ass rust spots and a 197,000 mile ka24 (ewww) the interior is a little wet cuz some ass left the window down but its ok besides all that its fine, unibody is straight n all, the golden part? i told the guy i wanted it as a parts car even though he kept tellin me from the beginning its still runnable, so i asked if i could take it for $300 and he bit!!
so can anyone help me identify the year and trim level? i have all the numbers off theserial plate under the hood if that would help?i really want this ride!! |

out of my factory service manual (you can find these on ebay :-)
i.e. RHLS13AN(R) (blank): coupe, R: fastback H: KA24E engine L: L.H. drive S13: model A: auto, F: 5speed N: Canada, V: California, U:Non-California (R): With A.B.S. not sure where you can find the year.. get a carfax report.

ok this is what i got,
Year/Make/Model: 1990 NISSAN 240SX SE Body Style: Hatchback 2 DR Engine Type: 2.4L L4 EFI Manufactured In: JAPAN so tell me whats an SE and is it really that hard to do an SR20 swap on 89-90 cuz its only sohc right?

any sr swap into any 240 is pretty easy, but you will have to use the sr engine harness, and mabye new mounts, many people have sites for sr engine swaps, but why go for sr, not rb? rb's are a whole 60 lbs heavier and have been taken to quadruple digit power numbers, when is the last time you saw an sr or ka over 400hp?
anyway, sr's will cost you about 2500 for front clip (last year, not sure this year, mabye a little bit more) and about that much if you have someone install it for you, do it youself, send the wiring harness out to JWT and save the money, sport compact car did a swap a couple months back the web article is on their site somewhere, ill post a link if i can find it.

S13 and S14 engine swaps are direct bolt ins with engine harness and engine mounts. Easy and cheap way to go. Only way your going to get 4-digit hp numbers out of a RB engine is if you put well over 20,000 in it. And realisicly, not that many people can afford to put that much into their engine. There's an article in Super Street (Aug. of 2002) with a S15 Silvia that puts out 597hp at the wheels, not 4-digits, but still crucial.

theres lots of KA's and SR's that do over 400hp
I know off hand atleast 3 KA-T's making over 400rwhp I know KA24E's can do 300hp naturally aspirated I know of quite a few SR's that put down over 500rwhp there are quite a few S chassis in Japan running under 10 second 400m times with full chassis and Street tires......a few of them are SR's with 500+hp and a couple were RB26DETT ones with 6-800rwhp. Is it just me or is a 500hp SR putting down the same performance as a 800hp RB26DETT? anyway you can make a KA24-T run 500hp easier and cheaper then taking a RB25DET, putting that in your chassis, and tuning it for 500hp. You say its easier to get HP on one kind of engine then another? what kind of idiot statement is that? You put a turbocharger on this engine its going to get more power, you put a turbocharger on that engine it will also have more power.....what gives LOL. And like I said, a $1200 or less turbo job on a KA24DE will give u the same HP to the rear wheels as a RB25DET stock....... what do Rb25DET front clips go for, I saw one for 3500 I believe, Plus installation, and you will want to buy some parts when u drop that in so lets say 5k for a RB25DET running in a 240sx..... Im not tearing u down for running a RB, just it isn't the end all engine and the ultimate source of power for a 240sx.... hell I think the KA is better. Give me 5000 dollars and a KA24DE and I'll make it humiliate a 240sx with a rb25det with the same amount of money spent on it. If you have a lot of money and it isn't an object...... get a GTR..... I've said this many times before and this isn't the last time..... You want a RB engine? get a skyline. P.S. you might think a RB in a S chassis is cool and powerful..... So is putting a LT1 v8 in a S chassis...... some people look down upon that though. Thats all im getting at, I don't really believe in engine swaps....but the SR20DET was an engine designed for this car from the factory so its not like putting in a different model/chassis' engine into your car. and i also have an RB25 clip that i've had sinve last fall...and i tell you this.... money is money. we all get and and we all want it. but HP is HP. either you have a reliable engine or ou dont. which is why people dont build too many KA-T's...and people spend money on swaps... i'm also a Honda guy... why do we spend money on "Acura" engines? it just IS... so keep what you have to get money outta "them: engines, but with nissans i'll use an engine that has been proven to make serious HP and be reilable at the same time. how many KA's have we seen shYt them selves???? my point exactly

When you mention RB- do you mean RB20, RB25 or RB26??????? I have heard of plenty of RB20's going in Silvias/240SX- but would anthing bigger fit????? The SR20DET is a better engine than the RB20DET either way- the RB20 engines are too heavy for my liking
