workin on a buddys 97 mystique inline. we have to boost it to start it. once running the lights are dim. when the car speeds up the lights brighten alot then when we slow down the lights almost go dark. once the car sits the battery doesnt have enough power to start it. when driving the battery light will come on as u speed up but turns off at idle. where should i start?

did some testing and the battery is good and when idleing the alt. puts out around 14V then when we rev it up its putting out just about 18V. would it be the regulator in the alt.????? any help would be nice

Provided the ground cable connections are clean and tight, yes, it's most likely the voltage regulator which is in the alternator.
