Tachometer problems

My tachometer, on occassion, does not work. If this happens, I shut the car off, then restart. The tach usually works, then.

Also, my car shifts hard when going into overdrive, on occassion. I had my trans fluid and filter changed. Any other ideas? 97 PA 135,000mi.
Thank you.

Re: Tachometer problems

Many things can cause a hard shift, failing pwm solenoid or tcc valve bore wear, a scan with a trans function may reveal something. Thje tach could be the unit itself, again a scan will show if the pcm is recieving an rpm signal, may be some connection with the trans also.

Re: Tachometer problems

i had similar symptoms as well. for the tachometer problem, mine would quit while driving down the highway. i had the crackshaft sensor replaced and haven't had a problem since. as far as the trans goes, i had hard shifting problems as well. i had the pcs solenoid changed and that solved the problem. both changed at 95,000 miles - now have 165,000. no problems since.
