Right Front Wheel Spin

I have a 2002 Cruiser & have noticed whenever I am on wet pavement especially if it is a slight incline, the right front spins a lot. Wondering is this is common.

Re: Right Front Wheel Spin

Yes that is common. Even though it is a front wheel drive, that wheel is your primary wheel. My wife found that out first hand. Last winter we had about 6 inches of smow on the ground. She did ok all over town, but when she went to turn left into out driveway that tire grabbed and pulled her into the ditch. About all I can say is drive for the conditions. Good luck.

Re: Right Front Wheel Spin

The differential is open, meaning whichever wheel is less loaded (the inside in a turn) or has less traction will be free to spin when traction breaks on that side. The only cure is to install a limited slip differential. The cheapest route is the Phantom Grip LSD. I have an '02 PT Touring 5-speed manual. I like sport driving and attend the occasional autocross. At ~90K miles, I had the car in the shop for a clutch, noisy front hub bearing and upgrade to urethane suspension bushings. While the tranny was out already, I had the shop go through the trans and replace bearings & seals. It was easy at this point (no extra labor) to install the LSD unit. It's about $300. You'll notice a little more torque-steer under hard acceleration is all.
