2001 F150 Heater noworkie

I have a 2001 F150 and the the heater does not work. I thought, actually I was pretty convinced the Blend door was at fault. I found this guy that sells a good fix for this problem however upon disassembly I found the Blend Door to be in good condition. I also checked the actuator and that seemed to be good as well. I then bought an after market (chiltons) manual to further troubleshoot. What a waste of $25. I have searched the Internet for advice and here I am. There seems to be a disagreement if there is a heater control valve. The one that shuts off the Coolant to the heater core. I have looked under the hood and found nothing. The parts house says there is a $50 valve but cannot tell me where. Anyone have knowledge? Please help, Im heading for cold country in two weeks and if the heater is not working, mama is going to complain the entire trip.

Thanks

the top hose is warmer than the bottom going into the heater box. I dont know if that means anything. That is one of the reasons why I said I was sure it was the Blend Door

if the hoses are close to same temp this is'nt the problem.you say hoses are warm
they should be hot at operating temp.are you sure coolant is hot enough??could have a thermostat thats stuck open.with the hoses warm are you getting luke warm heat or is it cold air??is the system full? low coolant will also cause this
