fog lights

i bought a used 2002 rodeo. it did not have fog lights on it. i discovered that the wiring is already in the truck. i installed fog lights and put a relay in the fuse panel. there is power at the fuse and at the relay. when i turn on the switch the fog kight don't work. the switch has to provide a ground to energize the relay, but it doesn't. does this mean that the body control module has to be programmed for the fog lights to work or should i be looking for a wiring problem from the switch. thanks pies.

You might already know this but I thought sometimes the simplest things are overlooked...

Are the light bodies metal to metal contact to the frame of the car? Or is there rust or paint between the light bodies and frame?

The frame acts as the ground and there must be some kid of metal to metal. My foglights rusted a bit and stopped working so I removed them and cleaned off the rust, added some dielectric grease between the lights and frame and voila... started working again.

Hope this helps.

OH AND HERE IS SOMETHING REAL STUPID THAT I DID.

My fog lights are wired so that they will NOT turn on unless the headlights are on as well.

I changed my bulbs once and they wouldn't turn on, and I went back to the store 2 times to exchange what I thought were busted bulbs. The clerk came out the 2nd time and flipped on my headlights and BAM. Foglights!!!

!

This is actually the law. You're not supposed to use fog lights or driving light independent of the headlights. I see people all the time who wire their driving lights wrong or re-wire the stock ones to come on without headlights and then they think they can use the driving lights as a substitute for headlights. Then they get a ticket and wonder why.

Re: fog lights

Another thing: From what I discovered on my Rodeo that has the wiring but not the lights is that the plugs behind the bumper for the lights is not protected from the elements.
