1999 Cavalier z24 - Stalling

Just started this morning, running fine last night...

- Runs fine at highway speeds, when I slow down to stop, idle drops then stalls
- No missing
- No head gasket -white smoke
- oil pressure good (have aftermarket gauge)
- idles out of gear (bit uneven though)

- I haven't hooked up my scanner - dunno is I have a computer code
- Only thing different - added injector cleaner this fillup (at 3/4 tank)

- I am thinking
- fuel pressure
- lock-up converter not releasing?

Are these 2.4's bad for anything that behaves like this

Re: 1999 Cavalier z24 - Stalling

Check and clean the IAC valve and passages. Also clean out the throttle body.

If the fuel pressure were bad, it should idle fine but have very little power and/or misfire with any load.

Possibly the TCC, but typically if they do stick the trans has to cool off before it will work again.

Re: 1999 Cavalier z24 - Stalling

Thanks J-Ri,

Well scanned it last night, hi map sensor reading. Found the vacuum line to the map sensor was rotted and broke loose.
It was just under the sensor - hard to spot. New vaccum line in and good as new.

I'll be taking the TBI off this spring and give it (and the IAC) a good cleaning as well.

Thanks Again
