Anyone with a malibu please READ AND HELP

Is it standard for the dash lights to stay lite up for a couple of minutes when you shut the vehicle off and shut the door? Does your malibu do this. Please let me know.

I am looking at a 1999 Chevy Malibu 2.4 motor that is for sale by a guy and I have a few questions about it. The car seemed to run fine but when he shut the car off the dash lights stayed on for at least two minutes before shutting off. The keys were out of the ignition and the doors were shut and the instument lights stayed on. I also noticed that the theft warning lights on the dash were on and a few others. After about two minutes the lights shut off and everything appeared fine. My question, is it normal to shut the vehicle off on these malibu's and the dash lights stay on for a couple of minutes before the lights go out? Do you know how you can put the keys in the ignition of a vehicle and just turn the key forward without starting the car, how all the lights in the dash light up? This is the same lights that are lite up. Any info would be great.

You must not understand the question that is being asked.

I am not talking about the interior lights, door sensor lights or curtiesy lights. What I am saying is the lights in the dash cluster is staying on for at least two minutes when the vehicle is shut off and the doors shut and even when the door sensor lights go off the dash still stays lite up for at least another solid minute straight. All other lights in the vehicle will be off but for some reason the dash will stay lite up for about two to three minutes. I found on another web site that this is not normal and the owner of the vehicle must have altered the wiring into the door sensor lights thus being the reason they stay lite up.

The instrument panel should go dead as soon as the key is turned off. there is an electrical problem with the IP or circuit. The BCM shuts down all electrical drains after a few minutes and that's probably what is finally shutting it off.

If you have your delayed headlight option on the instrument panel lights will stay on until the headlights go out that's no more than 20 sec. you can over ride it by turning the switch at the end of your turn signal to the off position while it is on. thats the way it works on my 2005 maxx
