abs and tcs light coming on when i hit bumps

when i hit a bump my abs light comes on as does my tcs light and they will not turn off until i shut the car off and restart it, i live in the city so this problem is a pain in rear (the roads in toledo ohio are TERRIBLE) after the lights come on my tcs stops working even if i hit the button, i dont know about the abs but i imagine that ceases to work too. once again as soon as i shut off and restart the car the everything is back to normal until i hit another bump.

sounds like you have a deteriorating wire. the same exact thing happneed to me. your abs sensors are built into your wheel hub/bearings. check the wiring from those all the way back to the computer they go to

Re: abs and tcs light coming on when i hit bumps

Hey there it could be couple of things , the easy way is a scanning tool that read ABS and brakes, it will point the direction to go, but if you can't get your hands on one of them or some one who has one, well is all by elimination , this problem happens because a faulty ABS sensor, ABS harness and or connection by corrosion or not plugged in the whole way, or your wheel baring going bad and there is obviously 1 per wheel, so like i said the easiest way is a scanning tool. hope it helps

A Gen-U-Wine Tech 2 can read the ABS codes...learned this about two weeks ago and will send you directly to the wheel sensor/wheel bearing/harness quadrant which is bad.

It is not a bad idea to inspect the harnesses going out to all 4 wheels as there may be some gross external damage easy to spot if you are looking in the right places.

Yes, check the wire first..and the connection. If they are OK, scanning it is the best option, but I had the same issue before I had to replace the hub. The sensor and hub have a tight tolerance and when the hub starts getting a little play in it, it is enough to cause this.
