Tamiya MP4/6 new build advice

Hi, new to the forum, I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times.
Starting to build the above in the new year and a little advise would be greatly appreciated.
I have the kit (1/12), perfect parts brake and detail sets, also just received formula perfect book for reference.
Any advice welcome, I have built models since I was a kid, including Porshe 935 martini so have some experiance.
My main concern is the paint, i have a testors air brush, but which paint gives the best finish.
I've seen finishers MP4 Red on the forum for the bodywork, where can you get it. What about the rest of the paintwork.

hiroboy.com has some MP4 red paint in stock. i actually just got some recently.

He also has the white paint.

These are automotive base paints that are a dream to work with but you WILL need to clear coat it before application of decals and optionally afterwards.

But I will most surely warmly recommend to use a primer first and let that dry thoroughly BEFORE using Zero paints. Any rattlecan from either Gunze or Tamiya should suffice. Failing to do that will affect the plastic surface in an undesirable way!

The Finisher's MP Red you mention is a good paint, I used it on my McLaren MP4/5b. But I feel now that the shade is incorrect, it's too red and not enough orange. After visiting the Donington Grand Prix museum a few years ago and seeing the real MP4/5b and MP4/6 in person I think the Zero MP4 red is a perfect match to the real cars and also much easier to apply as well...

Thanks for the advice, just checked Hirobo site and found the MP4 Red ZP-1066. Which white do you use, and which primer and clear coat.
Also, do you need to thin these, and if so, what with?

You need the Pure brilliant white (ZP-1032)

I prefer Tamiya's primer. Light grey first to highlight flaws (TAM87064)

Then Tamiya white primer (before your Pure brilliant white basecoat) (TAM87044)

You can thin all of these paints (if necessary, they come pre thinned but it depends on your airbrush, you may need to thin them a bit more) with basecoat thinner from Zero (ZP-5004)

The Zero paints need a clear coat as well. You can use Zero 2K urethane clear (ZP-3006)

or Zero Clear coat lacquer (ZP-3002)

You can of course use any good automotive type primer suitable for plastic if you wish. Hiroboy also does his own Zero primer which is good too. Also all the popular hobby clears work well over the Zero basecoat paints as do most automotive clears.

Thats great, I can see what you mean about the Finishers MP4 Red, the Zero seems more accurate.
Nice pictures, what scale is the MP5/B ? Looks smart.

That one's easy. Tamiya masking tape.

Leave several days for the solvent in the first color to outgas (I usually leave at least a week). Mask, spray, and carefully remove the masking after you are finished spraying (after you've cleaned the airbrush, etc). Try to leave the tape on for a short period of time. A couple of hours is ok, definitely not longer than overnight.

Thanks for all the painting tips, been checking out Bil Attridges mp4/6, absolute inspiration, to build to fraction of his example would be amazing.
Just managed to order the Chevron 9901 wind shield and chevron black harness detail up.
Any know where to get the hose ends and hose.
Keep accumulating the parts, but quite scared to start.
