95 explorer o/d light

I just got a 95 explorer xlt w/4.0 and a 4r44e tranny. now my question is,how easy is it to replace the valve body? from most of the info i read so far on this site,this seems to be the problem w/these transmissions. i already changed the 3/4 sift solenoid with no change. after i looked around and searched a few sites it is now determined that the valve body is bad. so how hard is it to replace and can it be done in a day?

If you have a lift it can be done in a day. You need to go to a transmission shop like trans star and buy a paper and rubber kit. After the valve body is dropped 1/4 drive and sockets are needed. You will have to remove one valve at a time and clean with brake clean. Lube with vasoline or a product from the transmission supply house. Only do one at a time as they need to be assembled properly. A new filter screen will also be in the kit.
Buy a manual for the transmission from them they sell paper backs for each transmission. Its a big help to have a good parts washer.
The gaskets are hard to install. I got some extra long used bolts the same size. Then I put the gaskets on this makes sure they are set properly. I then start a couple of these bolts. I then pushed up on the valve body and started a couple of the shorter bolts. After a few of these were in I removed the long bolts. Make sure you match up the gaskets so they are installed properly.
Anyway it can be done if the vehicle is on jack stands but is harder and takes longer.
I got a used valve body and a shop let me soak it in a parts washer. I then did one valve at a time. I had a shop manual. After it was ready I dropped the old one and installed the used one I cleaned and went through.
The paper and rubber kit should have a new pan gasket but buy a new filter.
