99 accord gear indicator light problem

Hi,
The gear indicator on the dashboard of my automatic 99 accord (4 cyl LX) does not indicate/turn on when I am driving on "D".
It works for everything else (P, N, 3, 2, 1).
This had happened earlier also but the light came back on it's own after remaining off for about 2 months, but this time it has not come back on even after 3 months.
Please let me know if this is simply a fuse problem or a burnt out LED or if it means something else.

Thanks

Re: 99 accord gear indicator light problem

Could be the shifter position switch on the center console. You need to remove the cover and then find the wire that connects to the contact for "D". It lights when it sees a ground. By shorting it to ground and it lights, then it is the switch. If not, it is the light/led on the instrument console.
