after market wheels

Ok, now this may sound dumb,so pardon me.
I would like to put some really hot looking wheels on my 91 coach (hearse). I don't really like the oversized wheels with the low profile tires, but would consider them if the wheel design was over the top. I've asked locally this question and have gotten 2 schools of thought:

Q. Will the aftermarket wheels support the weight (6400lb.)of the hearse?

The sellers of said wheels are all about , "Yeah- no problem".

Friends in the mechanic field say, "No way. They're not made to support that kind of weight".

So anyone out there have any experience with this? (No, I'm not fishins for hearse owner/friends! ;-)

Okay, does you car really weigh 6400 lbs, or are you just reading the GVWR from the data sticker?
The GVWR is the maximum allowable weight of the car when it is fully loaded with passengers and cargo. You may find the actual weight of the car when empty is about 5000 lbs.

That being said, your car should have a 5x5 (I think) wheel bolt pattern. It uses the same wheel size and offset as found on many full-size vans and pick-up trucks.

This means there's a huge selection of 15 inch and 16 inch (and larger) rims intended for the heavy-duty use found in half-ton and 3/4 ton pick-up(GM and Ford) trucks and vans, especially the older ones.

A 3/4 ton pick-up truck is intended to handle more weight than your hearse will ever face. So look for some light-truck wheels and you will be fine.
