2001 Impala temp gauge

I have a problem with my 2001 Impala. When the car is running, the temperature gauge doesn't register at all. After the car is shut off, it sounds like something is still running. I can't really afford to take it to a mechanic and am going to have a mechanic friend fix it if we can figure out what's wrong. He thinks it sounds like the therm. sensor. Please help!! Thanks!!

if you have no coolant in the system/no flow the temp guage will not work..

what is the coolant used ? dexcool ? is the radiator full ? did you check the thermostat for being stuck open ? does the heat work ?

Re: 2001 Impala temp gauge

Check the connector on the coolant temperature sensor. If it's disconnected the cooling fans will automatically turn on.
