Re: 1997 chev tahoe blowing transfer case fuse
Welcome to AF.
List the selections on your t-case switch. Also describe exactly when the fuse blows.

Re: 1997 chev tahoe blowing transfer case fuse
Assuming you mean selections on dash for 4 wheel drive...? They are 2 hi 4 hi and 4 lo. After replacing fuse it blows as soon as I try to engage 4 wheel drive to 4hi. Thx for replying 777.

Re: 1997 chev tahoe blowing transfer case fuse
With that info I would suspect an internal short in the encoder-motor at the t-case.
You could remove the electrical connectors (2) at the encoder-motor and try it, but I'm not sure if the selector switch lights will work?? Might be worth a try. If the lights still work and the fuse doesn't blow then lean towards the encoder-motor being faulty. The motors are prone to internal electrical failures. Other items in the system that could cause the fuse to blow are the selector switch, t-case control module and wiring. Really need to get it properly diagnosed before throwing parts at it.

Re: 1997 chev tahoe blowing transfer case fuse
it could be the encoder transfercase motor . also the wires going to this motor could be damaged...these wires have been known to get chaffed and shorted out to engine /frame metals..follow these wires back...with battery removed you could also check for a short to ground..
