2004 f150 4x4 oil leak

I hav a bad oil leak underneath my truck and oil pan is tight. I was told it was a seal that needs to be replaced. Anyone know roughly whats involved to do this and how much roughly it will cost?

Thanks

Depends on which engine.

Do you think it's coming from the rear main seal?
The oil pan bolts should be torqued to the exact specifications for your engine. Having it too tight WILL cause an oil leak.
Before you try to find the source of the leak, climb down and clean the engine really well, down to the metal. The oil can travel through the grime to the lowest point.

I'd pressure wash it, and wipe it down. It could be a valve cover gasket leak running down & off the pan.

Re: 2004 f150 4x4 oil leak

no oil up there definetly on bottom. Wiped everything down and its from front or rear seal. Most likely from rear seal and verified by my oil change place. I drove about300 miles this weekend on a getaway and checked my oil regurley and all was fine. Mechanic told me I was fine so long as its not stop and go around town. Thats when it would be more likely to leak as I was driving. Evendinetly he was right. I figure if I just monitor (dont have money to fix now) I will be ok. Any thoughts and how much would it cost to fix rear main seal?

Thanks
