Air Shocks - Pump

I have a 2002 oldsmobile aurora 3.5 and recently changed my rear shocks first with ac delco and now with monroe shocks. I still have a bumpy ride??

When I put the ac delco shocks on the air line rubbed on metal shortly after and was cut. I came home one day and heard a hissing sound of the air coming from the line that was cut.

The mechanic replaced the air lines and I could see the skocks being filled with air when i started the car ( i would see one shock move and the other did not), the problem was it was still very hard and the back was stiff when i pushed down on the trunk.

I had those shocks replaced with monroe shocks (cheaper I was told) and I still have a hard ride.

When I start the car I hear the air pump turns on and off, when i stop at my first stop sign on my street i hear the pump turn on again, this time a bit longer. I am pretty sure the pump is working. Any ideas?? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to AF. Same issue going on with my 2003 Lesabre, my oe shocks were bad and I researched replacement options, Monroe seemed to be a real load leveling unit and would stiffen the ride. I bought the Delco air shock kit from Rock Auto and adapted the lines to the oe system. Yes the rear is stiffer than before but not that much to be an issue. Only the factory shocks will restore the original ride at $180 each. As far as the pump activity, overnight the system settles slightly, when first started the pump restores the height, then after another few minutes it senses your weight and pumps it slightly more. This assumes no leaks in the system of course.

When the mechanic put the monroe shocks on he filled them with air and you could see the bag fill up, within a few seconds the bag was empty. I do not see the bag inflated at all currently.

1. Could it be a sensor?
2. Could there be a leak?

There may not be a need for air unless loaded. open the trunk and sit on the edge, key on wait 60 sec see if the car levels. Is it low in the rear?, I would still have all the fittings check for leaks. he had to alter the fittings to get non oe shocks to work. If the standing unloaded height is within programmed specs the pump will not respond.

I currently have a subwoofer box in the trunk on the right side, I guess the first thing is to check for leaks. But could you please tell me do you think the relay is fine because the pump is working, but it could be a leak or perhaps the sensor.

If the pump comes on the relay has to work, if you do what I said and the car levels with addt'l weight the sensor is also ok. Then check for leaks.

Hi, thanks for your help, I did load up my trunk with additional weight and then took a look at my shocks and I did see them auto adjust with air.

That rules out the rear shocks as a issue, I still have alot of noise when i hit bumps so I believe it is the front struts, does anyone know if I can replace a certain part of the strut to get better absorbtion, and should i replace both?
