f250 diesel seems to choke up
I have had my powerstroke diesel choke up on me shortly after running a few miles. Feels like it is not getting gas or air ..... can put the pedal to the floor and nothing. I have changed the air and fuel filter. Two years ago I replaced the cam sensor .... before I got the ford recall letter saying they would do it for free!
It does not do it everytime I drive it but enough to where I have to pull onto the shoulder and try to keep if from dying completely. My air filter was pretty crappy when I replaced it ..... somebody mentioned dirty injectors? Not sure. Need my truck running in tiptop shape since I haul horses around. Let me know what you guys think. Kim |

Re: f250 diesel seems to choke up
What year model truck? I'm guessing its a 7.3l?
If yes its a 7.3L, I have a few solutions or things that can help. 1) Try to access a scanner or have Autozone scan for codes. If you have an injector code (probably will be #8) you have a bad injector. The injector itself cannot be helped once its bad. (in other words injector cleaners etc will not work.) 2) The filters in the tank are clogged up. There are two small filters that are actually inside the tank, if you drop the tank and pull the sending unit completely out, take a small pocket screwdriver and pop the tabs outward gently (on the bottom of the sending unit). Be very careful not to crack or break the plastic or the o-ring will never seal again causing the sending unit not to suck fuel past about 1/4 tank. pull the bottom section out to reveal the two filters, there should be a bunch of stuff on them. Clean them with brake clean or air until clean, and put it all back together. Ive seen this problem in a 7.3 truck SO many times. 3) Exhaust back pressure sensor is clogged or bad. (EBP is located on the front of the motor, topside center. Has a metal line attached at the bottom and looks like a oil pressure switch.) 4) Very uncommon, but a weak fuel pump will cause a similar problem.
