Questions/concern about lifting my 2000 Tahoe Z71
I have a 2000 Tahoe Z71 that i want to have a more aggresive look. Thing is, I'm not sure what all goes into buying parts and knowing what to look for.. I like the look of a Tahoe's with the 6" lift and 35" tires. So i guess i'm wondering what exactly i'd need to buy for an adequate lift. The truck will not be used for off roading but i want something of good quality. I don't wanna half ass the lift either. Thanks for reading and i look forward to some feedback.
Also, if the lift doesn't work out, what are the biggest tires i can put on the truck with little/no cutting of anything for fitting them? I just want my truck to look less like it belongs in a department store parking lot to pass the time before i gotta drop the kids off at soccer practice and more like a real truck. Oh and idk if it matters but it's the old boxy body style, not the new style that started later in 2000 |

Re: Questions/concern about lifting my 2000 Tahoe Z71
is that a serious question? why do people customize 80's mustangs or 50's chevys or 30's anything. people like them. i'm a 19 year old with a perfectly fine tahoe. i can't really afford a 40-50 thousand dollar vehicle while going to college. i just want to know what all i need so i can shop for parts and see if i wanna go through with it. i just want a vehicle that is personalized. so if anyone has an answer to my initial question i'd like to hear from you, thanks. sorry if my choice to invest a few bucks into my truck is not what you have planned.

I have never purchased a used vehicle. only new special order with the options I want. I keep them for more than 10yrs. the last one 17yrs. pay cash for them..not because I'M loaded but because I save then buy. since your 19 yrs old you probably don't agree with this type of thinking.. It is true Its your money. your vehicle. If it was me I would save for the next repair job rather than blow it on increasing vehicle height , and then all the drive train work required to make sure it is reliable.this will take more than a few dollars with wheels most likely 2,ooo.oo... investing in a vehicle this old is throwing money away, you will never ever get anything back....like the insurance company as an example. |

Re: Questions/concern about lifting my 2000 Tahoe Z71
As you say, It's your choice----because it's your ride and your pocket book and your decisions.
My suggestion is to hook up with someone who has done a similar thing and pick their brain. On my '98 Sub K2500 I went with custom aluminum wheels (same size diameter as stock and a little wider) and 2 sizes larger on the tires. This effectively raised the Sub about 1 1/2" but left the suspension ride height same as stock. As for these larger tires--In tight turns they get into the inner fender a bit, the speedo runs slower (less fuel mileage) and there is a loss of uphill pulling power. Basically what larger tires do is raise the gear ratio. Probably the best source to talk with would be a 4WD shop that has experience with lifts and larger tires. Lifts and larger tires do put added strain on the driveline. So if you go thru with it be prepared for possible early failures of driveline components.

Re: Questions/concern about lifting my 2000 Tahoe Z71
Thank you. Like i said, this is just preliminary research to see if i even want to go through with it. I plan on keeping the truck for the rest of college and keeping it as a project for post college because i really do like the look of my truck and it is in very good shape as is so i feel like i have a good base for a modified truck.. I guess for now i'll stick with a sound system and general wear and tear repairs. I just want something to work on because frankly North Dakota is the most ridiculous place to live and time goes by real slow lol.
